Durham's® Water Putty Uses
Durham’s is the go-to product for homeowners and handypersons for making repairs to wood, drywall, patching plastic, tile, and many more uses. Durham’s stays put and does not shrink. It can be sawed, chisled, sanded, polished and colored. Use Durham’s for lasting repairs.
General Repair Uses
Durham’s® Rock Hard® Water Putty fills voids like holes, cracks, and the like. Just fill the void completely until the putty bounces back. After the putty has set up, remove the excess. It adheres to the sides of the hole for permanence. Use Durham’s to patch cracks and holes in walls, repair furniture, tighten loose wood joints, fill holes in wood so dowels and/or screws can be reset, fill edges and imperfections in plywood, and repair all kinds of antiques.
Patch Cracked Plaster Walls
Use a putty knife to spread Durham’s into cracks and cavities of plaster walls. Durham’s Water Putty does not shrink so the cracks disappear. Plus, your repair will last and last.
Fill Holes In Wood
Durham’s is ideal for filling knotholes, nail holes, oversized screw holes, and other defects in wood. Leave the putty uncolored if it is to be painted, or colored if it is to be matched with the wood. For coloring instructions, click here
Tighten Drawer Knobs
Stop fighting loose pulls and knobs that pull out! Fill the oversized hole with Durham’s Water Putty. Insert the shaft of the pull into the putty so that it fits snugly. Allow the putty to dry.
Fix Door Bumpers
Tighten loose door bumpers and trim with Durham’s Water Putty. Simply fill the oversized hole with putty, insert the bumper and let set. It may hold better than when originally installed.
Hang Pictures
To hang pictures and artwork with greater holding strength, place a dab of Durham’s into the old nail or wire hole. Insert the nail or wire before Durham’s is set and you’ll have an extra strong hanger.
Important Information
- Total drying time depends on size and the amount of Durham's used, humidity, and temperature.
- Durham's will withstand weather if kept painted, but paint will peel from damp water putty. Durham's will absorb moisture, like from underneath porch floors or decks, condensation within walls, and humid environments like showers or bathtub enclosures, which will prevent Durham's from completely drying or adhering.
- Durham's is meant to fill voids, not spread in thin layers over large, smooth surfaces. Where, for example, the first good slam of the door may cause Durham's to pop off.
- Do not use Durham's for structural or load-bearing applications, where there is movement, expansion, or contraction like between floor boards.
- Do not use on smooth concave surfaces, because Durham's may "pop" as it dries and expands slightly.
- If you add a great deal of powder or liquid paints, hardness and performance may be compromised.
